%Title: AFAN NEWSLETTER Volume 12 Issue 1 Oct. 1993

Aside from the usual obligatory professional association-type
announcements, this particular issue of AFAN (Association for
Astrological Networking) offers one article of particular note,
"The Battle of Battle Creek," reporting on Michigan's
anti-astrology statute, which is slated for repeal as a reult of
networking accomplished around an AFAN-led effort.

%Title: APA TAROT Issue 94 Sept. '93
%Descr: A really enjoyable APA thick with insightful comentary about
the tarot deck with most of the coments pertaining to the
Major Arcana. I found the examples of new card designs most
fascinating.
Nina Lee Braden franked an article about Jewish musticism's
connection to the tarot, K. Frank Jenson franked a piece about
the card buying habits of tarot readers (most only own two
decks), Tom Vallowe supplied some Egiptian-styled card designs,
and Ellie Miller told us about her home life and the agrivating
time she spent at ConFrancisco.
If I had more time this would be one APA I'd love to participate
in.

%Descr: Avatar is the official magazine of the Avatar Network, a
group based on the creativist school of thought.
Avatar is a registered mark for a 9-day course touting
Creativism: The art of living deliberately. This appears to be
another one of those pseudo-religious self-development scams
where one can learn how to become an Avatar Master in five easy
lessons. The glossy, four-color magazine is visually appealing
and includes numerous testimonials from seemingly otherwise
rational individuals who found their way after being lost through
this particular spiritual path or mental and emotional technology
called Avatar.

%Title: TIDES: A Journal of Wicca and NeoPagan Spirituality Volume 2
Issue 1
%Descr: Samhain '93
A very enjoyable NeoPagan/withcraft zine with a great
participatory spirit throughout with many letters and
submissions from its readers. A bit too heavy on the
"spells" for my tastes but then again you rarely see that
sort of stuff. Lots of resources too: anouncements, events,
and bibligraphic references.
They printed three different perspectives on the recently held
parliment of the world's religions, that helped establish
witchcraft as a religion. Rhomylly Forbes wrote an intriging
Pagan analysis of *Macbeth*, Arion explored the roots of modern
Wicca, Roger analyzed the results of the recent reader survey,
Cat Chapin-Bishop reported on comming out as a witch, and Scott
Thomas reseached the history of wassail.
I would definetly put this on my "recomended" list for neopagans.

Issue
%Descr: 84 Sept. '93
Tranet is the newsletter of a transnational network of
people who are changing the world by changing their own
lives and adopting appropriate technologies and lifestyles.
Tranet self-identifies as transnational since it associates with
no government and holds that idolatry of nation states can only
lead to conflict and war. This bimonthly newsletter is sent free
to grassroots workers in the Third World and counterpart
individuals, organizations or libraries. It is dedicated to
helping Third World villagers become more locally self-reliant,
and covers topics it labels "appropriate" technology such as
growing and preserving foods, housing, home medical care,
alternative energy and other self-help activities. Articles
include worldwide updates on social reform activities, book
reviews, a members bulletin board and resources listings.
